WHAT OUR STUDENTS SAY
Previous students share their real-life experiences at the International College of Queensland.
Hello! I’m Amelia from the United States. I came to Australia three years ago to visit a friend and fell in love with the Sunshine Coast. The people are so beautiful, and the lifestyle is much slower and social than where I grew up in San Diego. I decided to move to Australia for a year and study something I’ve always been interested in.
Australian beaches are breathtaking. Any day spent at the beach is a good one. My husband and I frequently road trip south just to beach hop along the coast. I’ve really enjoyed the slower and more relaxed lifestyle here. I frequently go to our local coffee shop to do my schoolwork and bump into people I know who have become close friends.
The girls in my class as well as my teacher have been so welcoming to me. We’ve developed friendships which makes coming to class really fun! After school happy hours with the girls are a blast! And I’ve even been able to pick up part-time work as a Nanny.
After I graduate, my husband and I have just decided we are going to move back to the states in October I’m going to study for the CA aesthetician license and hopefully get my beauty therapy diploma carried over to an aesthetician license so I am able to work in a salon or spa in California.
Hello! I’m Karoliina from Finland, and I’m in Cairns studying my Diploma of Screen and Media at the International College of Qld. When I saw an advertisement about the Screen and Media Makeup and Special Effects course it felt like something I’ve always wanted.
My favourite thing in Australia has been the opportunity to fly a helicopter and get my helicopter license; Australia is also the best place to skydive. I just love skydiving around the islands and beautiful beaches of Queensland. The best part about studying in Cairns for sure is the warm weather and getting to the gym, it definitely makes it easier to study.
Highlights of the course are the trainer and all the people. I like how creative the course is and I can’t wait to do the special effects, I also like all the opportunities that are available for me, having a small class is very good as well because I get more training and one on one time.
At the moment I am working part time as a Skydive Photographer here in Cairns. When I finish my studies, I would like to travel to USA and do special effect make-up work overseas.
Experience pays off for Ayaka

Hello! I’m Ayaka from Japan. I was on a working holiday visa and decided to study in Australia which will benefit me when I go back home to Japan. So, I started studying the Diploma of Beauty Therapy and Salon Management dual qualification package in Cairns. I love the Aussie food and Australia has more events and more interesting things to do than in Japan. I really like the weather and all the choices that are available for me here in Cairns. I like working where I can talk to both Australians and Japanese people. Because I have studied business and marketing before, I can now move onto Beauty and refer all that I have learnt in my previous course into this one. And best of all I can put my learning into practice in my part time job as a Beauty Therapist. Once I have finished studying at the International College of Queensland, I would love to be able to stay and get work experience in Australia.
